There are many ways to become a Bean Keeper. One of of the easiest ways to start is to pick a bean that you’d like to grow with your friends or class. Here are some of the reasons you might choose a particular bean:
It has been grown for hundreds of years
It is rare.
It is a pole bean or a bush bean.
It has a beautiful flower.
It has an interesting story.
It is tasty fresh off the vine, baked, or in soups and stews.
There are at least 4000 beans we know of in Canada and 28,000 in the world. We’re starting our Canadian Bean Keepers project by offering 21 beans for you to pick from. Pick one and we’ll send them to you. If you already have a bean variety that you want to grow, you can register it with us so we can know it is being grown. Whichever bean you choose, take note of its name and where it came from.
